Overall this is an okay karate uniform. The material is light yet feels robust and the stiching is good. However, beware of the drawstring pants as there are good size slits in the hips which can expose ones underwear. If one is skinny it may not be a problem, otherwise decorum necessitates safety pins or a sewing job.

My kid loves his new gi. It looks sharp, and it doesn’t hinder his movement, come undone, etc. He wore it happily to his first belt test.

The sleeves and cuffs required hemming, but that’s a plus for growing kids. Hint: a glue-gun does the trick and is easily undone/redone.

We got exactly what we ordered, and the quality as every bit as nice as I’d hoped. Good communications and prompt shipping rounded out a great buying experience.

Karate Uniform (Extra Heavyweight), 4/5 sleeves, White, 5

This is a bleached white extra heavy weight “instructors” karate gi. It’s made of long-strand 14 oz 100% brushed cotton canvas so it’s much softer than traditional heavy canvas uniforms (we got tired of washing our uniforms for a year to get them to soften up – if you LIKE getting rubbed raw from a new canvas uniform, this is not the one to get).

This Piranha Gear brand gi includes pants with a traditional drawstring waist, reinforced groin, and heavy stitching throughout to ensure durability. The pants, jacket and sleeves all have 8 rows of stitching at the hem. It is truly a “top-of-the-line” uniform.

We were tired of the drawstrings calling it quits before the uniform. So these drawstrings and jacket ties are made of the same heavy material as the uniform (but quadruple folded) so they won’t tear after the first year. We also have a nylon lining put inside the drawstring “tunnel” of the pants. That makes tightening them much easier – especially when they get sweaty.

The jacket has shorter “work-out” or “tournament” length sleeves (4/5 length) rather than full length “formal” sleeves – specifically for comfort and convenience. That means the sleeves will ride a couple inches above your wrist rather than cover it.

These uniforms do tend to run a little large, so if you’re not sure about the fit, we recommend that you get the smaller size.

This is NOT intended for beginning students and we’d suggest you consider a light weight gi before investing in one of these. It does NOT come with a belt because, honestly, you probably already have one if you’re ordering this…

This is a very well designed Gi. The cut is great for fighting/sparring ( kumite ), it allows for better range of movement. I not big fan of drawstring type pants, but the design on these is well thought out. It pulls evenly without discomfort.

The material is top notch, as is the stitching. The package arrives packed with care, and included with the gi are care directions – typed in booklet form. Not just a piece of paper clumsily cut with scissors, in other words these people care about their product.

That leads me to best part of this product – the customer service. You tell Piranha cares about what they’ve created and sell. But more than that, their response to email and the handling of returns is excellent. I ordered a size below what I normally order, because I thought a smaller size would give me the shorter arms and legs I was looking for. And my body probably fits a 3 1/2, best. When I discovered the size 3 was too small Piranha accepted my return, but wanted to know more about my sizing… so they could improve on their product ( I don’t think they need to change anything though ).

For the price I don’t think you can find a better gi. And with fantastic customer service, and a product made in the USA it can’t be beat.

I shop with many small company’s because of my hobbies, and it’s a hard life running a small business. Hopefully Piranha’s hard work will pay off.
