My sons are 10 and 13 they are both black belts 1st degrees and are looking for new schools in nj in the northern area. We are looking for new school since we have just moved from California to NJ. Please any suggestions

My analogy is that, my father was good at speeches and impromptu hosting. And I notice that I’m good at reporting and public speaking. don’t freeze up and say "uuhhh…" and "ummmm…" and stuff like that. I naturally know the things that most people have to get a personal speech trainer to learn. So, does this mean that I’m naturally good at martial arts even if I don’t learn it? Because my dad was a black belt in both Karate and Judo.

My daughter is a yellow belt in taekwondo. She likes it. But my main reason for signing her up in the first place is that she’ll be be able to protect herself throughout the rest of her life. But i’m not sure what is the best type of martial arts for her. There are so many and I don’t know one from the other. All I know is that I want her to be able to defend herself as she gets older if need be. It has to be "fun" enough to keep her interested too.

i have been in gojo ryu karate for 4 years and it took me all four years to get my black belt but some new guy came and he sucks dont even know the fourms and always talks about beating up people he got his in a year wtf….. is that fair?

I’ve heard it takes a relativley short amount of time to get a black belt in taekwondo in comparison to some other martial arts. My friend did taekwondo for about 3 years and got a black belt whilst my other friend has been doing wing chun kung fu for about 6 years and is 2 away from black and I would personally say that my friend that does kung fu is probally more capable at martial arts than my other friend.

I love martial arts. I’m testing for my 1st degree black belt today and tomorrow(its a two day testing thing). Sometimes I think I take martial arts too seriously. I really enjoy it and I’ve found confidence through it. Is it ok for martial arts to be your life or is that pathetic?

I’ve been wondering lately now that there is a traditional martial artist in the UFC (Lyoto Machida) will people start to have more respect towards traditional martial arts? Like will people eventually stop debating over the internet over which is better MMA or TMA. And do you think that there will be more like him in the UFC? Oh and by the way I’m a black belt in Ed Parkers American Kenpo Karate.
